JOIN THE NEXT STORM

12:00 - 13:00 on 30 June 2026

Evidence of hate doesn't disappear. Neither should the truth.

Our voices are being drowned out by a loud, organised campaign of fear β€” and a lot of it isn’t even real people. It’s bots, built to make hate look bigger than it is.

We’re here to change that.

CounterX is platform born from the CounterX Hackathon on 27 June 2026. We build coordinated, community-driven content amplification for the fight against xenophobia and afrophobia in South Africa.

When hate organises, so do we.

How to take part in the storm

πŸ“£TOP TIPS for taking part in a social media storm:

1. Submit content before the storm
See a powerful story, stat, or image this morning? Submit it to the content form now so it can be used during the storm: https://counterx.mobilizeapp.tech/pages/survey/019f148d-09e1-7257-a251-3cd685fb5b0d

2. Comments beat everything
The algorithm rewards comments more than likes. Even a single emoji counts, so drop a πŸ”₯, ❀️, or ✊ on every post you see.

3. Engage the full trio: like, comment and share

4. Post content on your own socials
You can find free-to-use graphics and captions here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18j4ec7hEHZAXtJY-_vOol_CyxGy8VQNfSG0ZvDjXbuE/edit?usp=sharing

5. Vary your comments
Copying and pasting the same comment repeatedly triggers spam filters. Write something genuine, even if it’s short. “This is important” or “Sharing this” works fine.

6. Use the official hashtags every time

Include the campaign hashtags in posts, shares and comments. We want to get trending!
Tag people

7. Tag 1–2 friends in the comments of posts and invite them to join.

8. Comment with something real
Emoji are still good (and better than nothing), but a sentence, even one line, signals “real engagement” to the algorithm in a way a single emoji doesn’t. Add your own reaction, your local angle, or why it matters to you.

9. Reply to other people’s comments too
Don’t just comment on the post itself, reply to the comments already there. A thread with back-and-forth reads as a lively conversation, and lively conversations get pushed further. Liking other people’s comments helps too.

10. Quote it, don’t just share it
A quote-post (X) or a share with your own caption (Facebook/X) carries your voice into your own network, not just a silent repost. On TikTok, a duet or stitch does the same thing.

11. Get in early
The first hour after a post goes live is when engagement counts most for reach. Checking the group as posts drop beats batching all your engagement for the next morning.
Save the post, follow the account

12. Following the account
(if you haven’t already) grows that voice’s audience well beyond tonight’s storm.
Use the platform properly

13. Share Wider
Add the post to your Story too (Use a link sticker if there’s a link). On Facebook, share in relevant groups, not just your own timeline.

How to get a URL to submit

What we do:

Xenophobic narratives spread fast because they’re coordinated. CounterX gives anti-xenophobia voices the same power: easy-to-use content, shared timing, and a community that shows up together.

Whether you’re an individual, an organisation, or an activist β€” you don’t have to fight the algorithm alone.

What's in Development

Content Repository

A growing library of ready-to-use content that organisations and individuals can take, brand, and share across their own platforms. No design skills needed. No starting from scratch. Just pick up what works and amplify it.

Evidence Documentation Platform

Hate doesn’t disappear when we ignore it β€” but it can be defeated when it’s exposed.

We’re building a platform where evidence of xenophobic incidents can be submitted, verified, and routed where it matters most:

  • Researchers building datasets
  • Journalists investigating patterns
  • Legal advocates building cases
  • The public record β€” preserved, not buried

Your documentation won’t vanish into an algorithm. It will be connected to the people and systems that can bring real accountability.

Whether you’re a survivor, a witness, an advocate, or a researcher β€” this is where evidence becomes action. Submit safely. Make it matter.
